HISTORY

OF

PILATES

Pilates (first called "Contrology") was invented by German born Joseph Pilates, while he was a POW in England during WW1. J. Pilates grew up as a sick child, therefore he dedicated his life to physical wellness and fitness. His curriculum vitae includes boxer, circus performer,  self-defence trainer.  He also had a keen interest in yoga, skiing and kung fu.

After the war, J. Pilates moved to the USA and began a "Contrology" studio with his wife Clara, with an emphasis on breath and movement.

Pilates is a form of exercise focused on mind and body control. Through concentration and body awareness, as well as engaging core postural and spinal muscles through movement and exercise, one can surely strengthen the entire body.
