PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy (also known as 'physical therapy') is a method of therapy aimed to reduce bodily pain and restore normal body function after trauma or damage to the muscular-skeletal, cardiorespiratory, neurological and lymphatic systems of the body. This can be achieved through the physical manipulation and tension release at various joints and muscles (performed by a physiotherapist), muscle and neurological retraining, and by strengthening of muscles, joints, balance and cardiovascular systems.

Physiotherpay sessions can be performed in studio or in individual homes.

LYMPHATIC TREATMENT (MLD)

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD - Vodder Method) treatments can benefit suffers of lymphedema, lipedema, or chronic swelling post-trauma or surgery.

Lymphedema is defined as excess lymph fluids that collect in body tissue and cause swelling. Lymphedema may occur in the arm, leg, trunk or face after surgeries or trauma, where lymph vessels or lymph nodes have been removed or damaged. Genetic lymphatic diseases are rare, but can also cause lymphedema. It usually manifests as painless swelling, but if left untreated can cause fibrosis (thickening) of skin and muscle tissues, loss of range of movement of joints and general discomfort and pressure in the body part effected.

Lipedema is an adipose tissue disorder that affects the lymphatic vessels and/or nodes in our bodies.  It is a relatively common, but poorly understood fat disorder that is often mistaken for simple obesity.  Lipedema is distinguished by five characteristics: 1) it can be inherited; 2) it occurs almost exclusively in women; 3) it can occur in women of all sizes, from the seriously underweight to the morbidly obese; 4) it involves the excess deposit and expansion of fat cells in an unusual and particular pattern – bilateral, symmetrical and usually from the waist to a distinct line just above the ankles; 5) unlike the “normal” fat of obesity, lipedemic fat cannot be lost through diet and exercise.

These conditions can however be improved and managed through specific treatment techniques, such as massage (MLD), exercise and bandaging/pressure garments. Lymphatic massage can help by stimulating your lymph nodes and vessels to pump that extra fluid out of your body.

Please be in contact if you are needing a treatment for these condition, or know someone that might benefit from such a treatment.
